Iphone vs android
Android Phone vs iPhone: Which Should You Buy in Nigeria 2026?
If you’re buying a new phone in Nigeria today, you’re stuck with one question: Android or iPhone? After testing both for years in Lagos heat, bad network, and NEPA wahala, here’s the honest breakdown.
1. Price and Value for Money
Android wins. You can get a solid Tecno Spark 20 or Infinix Hot 40 for ₦120k-₦180k. It will have 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and a 5000mAh battery.
iPhone starts at ₦450k for an iPhone 11, and that’s 64GB with weaker battery. New iPhone 15 is ₦1.1M+. For most Nigerians, that’s 3 months salary.
Winner: Android - unless money isn’t a problem.
2. Battery Life + Charging
Android wins again. Most Android phones now do 5000mAh + 33W fast charge. Zero to 100% in 1 hour. Your Tecno can last 2 days if NEPA takes light.
iPhone batteries are smaller. iPhone 14 = 3279mAh. You’ll charge twice daily. And Apple’s 20W “fast” charger is sold separately for ₦25k. In Nigeria where light isn’t guaranteed, Android is safer.
Winner: Android
3. Camera Quality
iPhone wins for video. Android wins for zoom/features.
iPhone 13 and up shoot the most stable video. If you’re a content creator, clients prefer iPhone footage.
But a ₦300k Samsung A55 will beat a ₦600k iPhone 12 in night photos, zoom, and AI editing. Android phones now have 108MP cameras with pro mode.
Winner: Tie - iPhone for video, Android for photo features.
4. Software Updates + Lifespan
iPhone wins. Apple gives 6 years of iOS updates. An iPhone 11 from 2019 still runs iOS 18 today.
Android depends. Samsung promises 4 years. Tecno/Infinix = 2 years max. After that, banking apps may stop working. If you keep phones 5+ years, iPhone saves money long-term.
Winner: iPhone
5. Durability + Repairs in Nigeria
Android wins. Crack a Tecno screen? ₦15k at Computer Village. Crack an iPhone 13 screen? ₦180k for original, ₦40k for fake that kills Face ID.
iPhones are also harder to fix. One drop in water and most Lagos engineers will tell you “board don go”. Androids are easier to repair and parts are everywhere.
Winner: Android
6. Resale Value
iPhone wins. A 3-year-old iPhone 12 still sells for ₦350k. A 3-year-old Samsung A52? ₦90k if you’re lucky. iPhones hold value like land in Lekki.
Winner: iPhone
Final Verdict for Nigerians
| Buy Android if: | Buy iPhone if: |
| Budget is under ₦300k | You shoot video for work |
| You hate charging twice daily | You keep phones 4+ years |
| You live where repairs are hard | Resale value matters to you |
| You want value + features | You’re in Apple ecosystem |
My advice: If your budget is under ₦400k, buy a new Samsung A35 or Tecno Camon 30. You’ll get more phone for your money. If you have ₦700k+ and create content, iPhone 13 or 14 makes sense.
Don’t go broke to impress people. The best phone is the one that doesn’t frustrate you and leaves money for data.
